Whistler Records
Our in-house record label is a unique example of an evolved relationship between music venue and artist. Beyond just providing a stage for bands to perform on, we've taken the relationship one step further by providing some of our favorite local artists with the means of producing, distributing, and promoting their music. Much like the music on our stage, Whistler Records' catalog features an eclectic mix of everything from rock and pop to jazz and hip-hop.
SHAPERS features Zaid Maxwell (guitar/synths/vocals), Steve Reidell (of The Hood Internet on guitar/bass), Amelia Styer (synths/vocals), and Todd Waters (drums/percussion). On stage, they deliver throbbing, psychedlic hoedowns and on album they playfully experiment with ambient soundscapes, squalling jazz blasts, and pulsing Kraut-rock. Indie music blog Rose Quartz “Love the crazed energy from Chicago’s SHAPERS. It’s totally hopped up on this fervant melodicism like you get from Sunset Rubdown, but all jittery and disorienting,” while the Chicago Tribune calls the band "Unconventional and inspired.”
