Whistler Records
Our in-house record label stands out as a unique example of an evolved relationship between music venue and artist. Beyond just providing a stage to perform on, we've taken the relationship a step further by providing many of our favorite local artists with the means of producing, distributing, and promoting their music—and much like our live music programming, Whistler Records' catalog features an eclectic mix of everything from rock and pop to jazz and hip-hop.
The Hood Internet is Aaron Brink (aka ABX) and Steve Reidell (aka STV SLV). They are musical alchemists, distilling a mixture of indie and hip-hop into dance-your-ass-off gold. Los Campesinos! guitar riffs laid over Young Jeezy’s raps? They’ll make it happen and they’ll make it awesome.
Hood Internet first worked with Kid Static by including the Yea Big & Kid Static track "Eatchyo Sandwich" on top of the Ministry classic "Stigmata" on the Hood's Vs Chicago mixtape in 2008. They later paired Yea Big & Kid Static's "Bots" with Chicago synth-poppers Hey Champ's "Face Control" for a special Chicago-centric set of four tracks that broadcasted one per week on Chicago's Q101 in early 2009. Then, after performing with Kid Static at the Mr. Tastees Pop Up Jam in late 2009, Hood and Static decided to make some tracks together, which became the two new originally produced songs on the eponymous Hood Internet & Kid Static 7".
